To seek the input of relevant members of our First Nation community to ensure cultural needs are considered in the design and development stages of the project.

To bring together Community groups from throughout the Eurobodalla to assist in the raising of funds required to complete the construction.

To source skills, labour and construction materials from local businesses and contractors wherever possible.

To complete the project and wind-up CAERH, donating any remaining funds in accordance with our Constitution.

Background

In 2020 the New South Wales Government announced funding for the construction of a Level 4 Hospital to provide health and medical services within the Eurobodalla Region. Following consultation with community, consumers, local First Nation groups and other key stakeholders, land was purchased in Moruya which is approximately in the centre of the Eurobodalla Region.

The traditional owners of the Yuin Country conducted a smoking ceremony on the selected site. Construction of the hospital commenced in 2024.

The Eurobodalla Region of NSW stretches from South Durras in the north to Tilba Tilba in the south and is located 2 hours east of Canberra and 4 hours south of Sydney.

The area attracts large numbers of tourists during the summer months.

The size of the region’s population together with growing visitor numbers demonstrated the need for the community to provide temporary accommodation for family carers of patients whilst they receive treatment at the hospital.

Southern NSW Local Health District supported the community’s concerns. Members from local Rotary and Lions clubs worked together to establish the Carers Accommodation Eurobodalla Regional Hospital Inc. (CAERH).

Membership is drawn not only from the service clubs but from interested persons throughout the community. CAERH was incorporated as an Association with the NSW Dept of Fair Trading on 19 August 2022 and the Inaugural Annual General Meeting was conducted at the Moruya Golf Club on 16 November 2022.

CAERH is a not-for-profit incorporated association and is currently applying for status as a Charity. All members and office bearers give their time voluntarily. CAERH is a whole of community organization and not aligned politically.

It exists for the sole purpose of raising money to design and build accommodation so that hospital patients can be supported by their family carers.

On completion of its mission, CAERH will hand over the accommodation to Southern NSW Local Health District to manage ongoing and wind up the Association.
